China and Kyrgyzstan have committed to further strengthening their bilateral ties, with both sides highlighting expanded cooperation in key areas such as trade, infrastructure and regional partnerships.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with Kulubaev Zheenbek Moldokanovich, Kyrgyzstan’s minister of foreign affairs, in the southwestern Chinese city of Chengdu on Saturday.
Wang emphasized the rapid development of China-Kyrgyzstan relations, citing a series of successful projects as evidence of the growing collaboration. Notable among these is the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway, set to launch soon, and the phased operational opening of the Beshkent border port. These initiatives, along with other major projects, have injected substantial momentum into the bilateral relationship, Wang said.
“We should continue to carry forward the fine tradition of mutual respect and support, deepen strategic trust, and expand our mutually beneficial cooperation to elevate the China-Kyrgyzstan comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights,” Wang added.
In a move to further solidify economic ties, Wang expressed China’s willingness to accelerate the signing of an intergovernmental services trade and investment agreement, ensuring a legal framework to support continued cooperation. He also highlighted the importance of improving infrastructure at key border ports, such as Beshkent, and increasing direct flights between the two countries to facilitate easier movement of people and goods.
Kulubaev praised the strong alignment of interests between the two countries, emphasizing that there were no political differences between China and Kyrgyzstan. He noted the successful high-level exchanges that had taken place this year, including a meeting between the heads of state, and expressed optimism about the future of their relationship.
He also expressed hope to establish a high-level strategic dialogue mechanism between the two countries and further strengthen cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, customs and ports.
Both sides also agreed to enhance coordination within international frameworks, such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the China-Central Asia mechanism.
Kulubayev expressed Kyrgyzstan’s full support for China’s role as the rotating chair of the SCO, and reiterated the country’s commitment to promoting and practicing the “Shanghai Spirit” in advancing regional cooperation.
