Xing Xing (meaning “star” in Chinese), a Tibetan macaque losing an arm, is the sole simian resident of Daliang Mountain in Ninghai County, Ningbo City, east China’s Zhejiang Province. She’s become an online sensation due to her unique bond with the elderly Buddhist nun and monk who have cared for her for over 15 years.

Found injured sitting in a tree when young, Xing Xing lost one arm but overcame the odds with the help of the nun, monk and other caretakers. She has adapted well, maintaining a balance between her wild instincts and interactions with humans. She starts everyday with a meal at the nun’s door, returning to the mountain at nightfall.

Xing Xing’s story is a testament to the strength of the animal spirit and the compassion of those who have helped her survive.
