Qi Guangpu of China won the men’s gold medal at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Aerial World Cup in Lac-Beauport, Canada, on Saturday.
A total of five Chinese athletes reached the men’s final, but only Qi and Li Xinpeng made the second round. The competitions were not completely smooth for anyone, but Qi outperformed all of his opponents with a score of 124.00 points that put him on top of the podium.
“So I just keep working and keep working,” the 34-year-old Chinese veteran said. “This year I came back here and got the gold medal. I am very happy.”
Home favorite Lewis Irving came in second with 102.50 points, followed by Christopher Lillis of the U.S. and his 85.40 points.
In the women’s final, 35-year-old Laura Peel of Australia won the title with a score of 117.19 points. It was her first World Cup victory since her triumph at Almaty, Kazakhstan in March 2023.
China’s Chen Meiting took second place with 102.31 points while last week’s winner and reigning Olympic champion Xu Mengtao of China was third with 92.72.
The aerialists will return for a final day of individual events on Sunday.
