Shipu, a county in Xiangshan, Ningbo, east China’s Zhejiang Province, has a rich fishing culture shaped by its coastal location. Fish lanterns – an iconic symbol of the local culture – glow in the night, reflecting the town’s deep ties to the sea and embodying fishermen’s hopes for prosperity, abundance and safety.
In the past, villagers would dry fish in preparation for the Spring Festival. This practice of welcoming the new year still carries on today, bridging modern celebrations with centuries-old traditions.
