Chinese athletes added another 11 gold, nine silver and eight bronze medals on Saturday at the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris, further extending the team’s lead on the medal table.
On the final day of competitions for swimming events on Saturday, China continued their dominant performance by standing on the top of four podiums. Zhang Meng won the women’s 200-meter individual medley SM10 final in 2:26.81, setting an Asian record.
Yang Hong and Wang Jingang finished the men’s 100-meter backstroke S6 final in top-two. Yang claimed the title in 1:14.31, 0.85 second faster than Wang.
Jiang Yuyan pocketed her seventh gold at the 2024 Para Games and broke her third world record after winning the women’s 100-meter backstroke S6 final in 1:19.44. She defeated the previous world record holder Ellie Marks of USA in the race. Jiang will carry the Chinese flag at the closing ceremony on Sunday.
He Shenggao, Lu Dong and Cheng Jiao had the women’s 200-meter individual medley SM5 podium all for Team China by finishing in top-three in the final. The gold medal went to He who completed the competition in 3:17.99. Silver medalist Lu and bronze medalist Cheng were 0.48 and 8.34 seconds respectively behind.
Cai Bingchen of China left his mark on the field on Saturday by throwing 12.77 meters in the men’s shot put F33 final, both winning the title and breaking the world record.
Cai’s compatriot Han Miaoyu also made her country proud in the women’s 79-kilogram category powerlifting final. After sealing her victory by lifting 152 kilograms in her second attempt, Han went on to break the world record by lifting 154 kilograms in her third attempt.
Yan Panpan added a powerlifting gold for China after winning the men’s 88-kilogram categroy final with a Paralympic record of 242 kilograms.
