Peng Liyuan, World Health Organization (WHO) Goodwill ambassador for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, recently participated in a campaign event on preventing AIDS at University of Science and Technology Beijing ahead of 2024 World AIDS Day.
During the event, she presented a flag to a student representative of AIDS prevention volunteers, encouraging them to continue their vital work in promoting AIDS awareness.
The event showcased the progress and achievements of China’s national AIDS prevention efforts, highlighting key successes in recent years. Through various interactive activities, including classroom discussions, scene plays and interviews, the event educated participants on AIDS prevention and showcased the work of volunteer programs in universities.
Peng called on students to contribute their energy and enthusiasm to the fight against AIDS, stressing the importance of youth involvement in raising awareness and spreading prevention knowledge on campuses.
Before the event, Peng visited an exhibition that celebrated a decade of efforts to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention in universities across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. She learned about the effectiveness of their AIDS prevention work, engaged with students participating in these campaigns, and met with medical staff and volunteers. Peng encouraged students to collaborate in the fight against AIDS and emphasized the need to keep AIDS away from campuses.
The event was attended by representatives from international organizations, Red Ribbon health ambassadors, HIV/AIDS prevention experts, and university student volunteers.
