Wang Ziyang of China won the men’s snowboard knuckle huck gold medal at the X Games in Aspen, Colorado, on Saturday in his debut at the program.
Wang ranked fourth place before his final run and needed to nail a real stunner to come back for victory. He chose a triple frontflip with nose and tail taps and landed the trick in a nearly perfect way to book the top spot on the podium.
As the first person to compete in both X Games superpipe and knuckle huck, Wang also became the first snowboarder of his country to win the men’s knuckle huck event at the program.
Patrick Hofmann of Switzerland earned the silver medal of the event and the bronze went to Dusty Henricksen of the U.S..
Wang’s compatriot Li Fanghui clinched her first medal at the X Games as well after coming second in the women’s ski superpipe final with 86.66 points. Cassie Sharpe of Canada won the gold with 88.33 points. Her compatriot Amy Fraser had the bronze with 84.66 points.
